Day 26 - Sorry blog we were busy bees!

We have had a busy past few days with The Garay family visiting, which was awesome!  It had been a few days since I was able to see Ryann, so I was very excited to get to spend time with her yesterday and today.  She is still doing really well.  I don't anticipate very many new updates at this point.  Each day they work to compress her feedings (goal is to get her to drink all of her allotted formula every 3 hours, reminds me I forgot to ask how much that is) even more and we are hopeful that after each change in compression her stomach will tolerate the additional formula.  So far it has!!!  I also forgot to ask the nurse what her updated weight was, I will ask tomorrow!  I will be headed with Lucy up to my parents house tomorrow for the Easter weekend, Nick is staying behind to visit Ryann : ) so I wont be updating the blog again until probably Tuesday.  Happy Easter!

Video of Ryann, she was having trouble keeping her eyes open today!  it was so funny!

Day 23 - Day 22 we missed you

We didnt get a chance to go to the hospital yesterday, but Nick called and checked on Ryann and she had had a good night and day, they were going to start the compressed feedings over the weekend.

Heather, David, Sam and Lizzy got in last night and Lucy was so excited to see them!  We are having a rainy cold day today, but Nick took Auntie Heather and Uncle David to see Ryann today.  Auntie Franny stayed home with the kiddos!

Scrunchy Face!

Nick talked to the doctor today and the doctor told him that he was optimistic that Ryann could be out in 3 weeks!  That is such exciting news!!  We are just getting so anxious to have our family together!!!  Lucy just keeps saying baby Ryann is at the doctor and today she told me that she wants to give her a high five, LOL!!!

See you tomorrow!!

Day 21 - 3 weeks old!

Ryann had another good night and was passed out the entire time that I was there today.  I spent alot of time talking to the nurse today and the doctor stopped by durings rounds to say hello.  He said that Ryann is doing really well and that now she is basically eating and growing, which is so nice to hear.  There is a chance that Ryann could come home with her feeding tube, caffeine and heart monitor, but we wont worry about that until the time comes.  So we will just sit back for a week or so to see how she does with the compressed feedings and then if her stomach does well then they will start trying the bottle again.

Mommy Update - Incision is healing and Nick has been doing a really good job helping to clean it twice a day, hopefully in the next few days it will be officially healed!  Now I just have to get my energy back and get rid of the headaches I have been having and we will be all set!  Pre-eclampsia really stinks!!

Ryann's hat is a preemie hat and I think that it kinda looked like a beret on her!  LOL!  Her poor little head.  I wanted to get a picture of the outfit that matched, but she was so peaceful, I didnt want to disturb her.

We are getting excited for more visitors, Nick's sister Heather is coming with her husband and 2 kids!  It is going to be such a fun weekend!  to bad that it is going to be horrible weather all weekend, but Auntie Franny gots lots of crafts and we are going to have an easter egg hunt!

See you tomorrow!

Day 20 - Broke the 4lb mark!

Big news, Ryann's weight is 4lbs 1oz!!!!!

Today when we got to Ryann she was wide awake! I took alittle video of her and then realized my camera battery was going to die.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o03XpYqHZDM&feature=youtu.be

I held her for over an hour and she was just so alert and looking around everywhere, she also left me a great surprise, I had to change her poopy diaper!  She has no butt, LOL!  So it was alittle challenging, but momma did it!  Because of our expierence and how blessed we have been with our preemies, Nick is starting to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house, here in Augusta, he had his first meeting while I was at the hospital and then he came to join us afterwards.  The lady that Nick met with today, told him that a family just left after being at the house for 300 days!  I cant even imagine.  It also houses families that have children in the pediatric ICU...  So sad, we are so blessed!

http://rmhcaugusta.org/

She looks huge, but if you get a chance and you see a preemie outfit at the store, hold it up and it will put Ryann into perspective.  her outfit and hat are preemie size!

We did talk to the doctor and Ryann's nurse today, she was able to look up for us that Ryann was actually measured when she first got to MCG hospital and that she did only measure at 31 weeks, so she was younger than we thought, and did in fact stop growing in my belly, since I was 34 weeks by gestation.  So she might actually be in the hospital longer than her due date of April 8th, she is 3 weeks behind what we thought as far as age goes, but we will continue to take all of the prayers and love from everyone, which makes us all stronger!

She is now at 12ml continuous feedings, which is her max amount.  So now they will work to start compressing her feedings, the ultimate goal is to get her at 12ml every 3 hours....  Once they get her to that goal then they will try bottle feeding again.  So probably not for another week or so.

Thank you so very much, see you tomorrow!

Day 19 - Ryann's new diggs! We missed day 18

We didnt get a chance to get to the hospital yesterday, but Nick did call twice to check in on Ryann and they told us that she was doing well.

Today when I went in to see Ryann, she had a new bed!  It was very exciting to see her in an open crib.  They took her PICC line out and all of her IV's, so now she is getting all of her nutrients from her formula.  They have been consistantly increasing her feedings, I believe that they said that she is at 10ml an hour continuously, and has been tollerating that very well.  They have been increasing every other day, I believe.  The days have been going by so fast, it is hard to remember!

When I got to the hospital today, the physical therapist was working with Ryann, it was neat to talk to her and to see what motions and massages she was doing to help her little joints.  She was really content for most of it and then towards the end, she was getting annoyed so she gave Ryann to me and she calmed down, she said maybe she just needed her mommy!  Makes me sad, I just wanna take her home already!!!!  So excited to see the sisters together!  Lucy keeps saying that she wants to rock, kiss, change, hug ect Ryann!!

Meesh - she is wearing the outfit that you got her!  The hat is a newborn size and they had to tape it becuase it is huge!  Cant wait to bring the preemie hats we just got from Patty to the hospital!!

See you tomorrow!

Day 17 - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Friday my parents came for the weekend, it has been so nice having family the last couple of days.  Much more relaxed then the last time everyone was here 2 weeks ago, when Ryann entered the world.

Mommy Update - Friday I went back to the doctor and he is sort of pleased with the progress my wound has made, he showed Nick how to clean it, which was great, so we didnt have to go to the ER for them to clean it.   I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow and hoping he is still pleased with the wound otherwise, he said they would have to numb my incision again and re-cut it open for it to start healing all over again...  ANNOYING - so prayers please that this hematoma cooperates!  Nick has been a very good doctor :)

Ryann had a good weekend, they have upped her feedings to 8ml and will go to 11ml later on today, I believe this is still a continuous feed.  She is still on the caffeine and her heart rate has been behaving, which is so nice to hear.  They have been keeping her in clothes and wrapped up in a blanket, which has allowed them to open her incubator.  This helps her to start to regulate her own temperature.  She is trucking along!

When we got to Ryann on Saturday she was wide awake, dont mind my voice, I forget that it also records sounds, LOL!  But here she is : )

Big sister news - Lucy got her first haircut today and she freaked out as you can see from the pictures!  I will be sure to take one tomorrow of her new do, a bob!

here are a couple pics that I took this afternoon of Ryann. It's so nice to see her in clothes and this was an outfit that Lucy has when she was a tiny preemie too!

They have to keep the one arm out of her outfit because of her PICC line.

See you tomorrow!

Day 15 - Sorry, Day 14 we missed you!

We had my grandparents in town, which was so nice!  Lucy really loves her Mee Ma and Pee Pa!  It was so nice for them to see Ryann again, they hadnt seen her since she was born and they both really noticed such a change in her growth!  Nick and I do not notice it as much since we see her everyday, so it is so nice to hear!

Ryann had a another good day on Thursday!  The angels must have really been talking to her because she was smiling up a storm!  Here is a bunch of pictures, she just looked super sweet!

The nurse did tell us that all of her tests were coming back normal and we should know more information when we went back on Friday.

Today we went to visit Ryann and she had on a outfit!  she looked like a real baby :)  The nurse said that they did try bottle feeding again today, but she only took 10ml, which isnt much at all.  But they did stop the antibiotics, which means that our misses didnt have any infection.  So the bradycardia is just going to be Ryann's preemie thing, which if it is all we have to worry about, which is nothing to worry about then we will take it.  They moved the babies around and Ryann's new incubator mate was born 2/11 and only weighed 1 lb 1 oz, he is super tiny..  So we for sure count our giant blessings!    hmmm...  trying to think what else...  They have kept the PICC line in and it now seems to be cooperating, so that is good.

It was really nice to see her in an outfit and the nurse said that they like to get the preemies into outfits and out of their little nests in order to start the process of their transition home!  when we heard that today, it made us smile!  that was the first talk of Ryann actually coming home!  So the nurse said that I could bring the outfits that we have for her at home to the hospital.  The oufit that she is wearing is one from the hospital.  Our lil leopard!  The pink blankets are ones that we brought from home!  Wanted to make her area nice and pink so they knew she was a girl!

Cant forget about big sister!  she had the best time playing with her Pee Pa.  Cute video of her riding her horse!

And now we are getting ready for my parents to come for the weekend!  Lucy is going to love it!!

Oh and Ryann was 2 weeks old last night, can you believe it!!!

See you tomorrow!!!

Day 13 - Sorry Day 12 we missed you!

Yesterday went by to quick and i didnt get a chance to update the blog.  Ryann is doing well, we did get a chance to hold her today, which was so nice!   After we left and went to my doctor's appt, we did get a call from her nurse and doctor....  They had told us that her heart rate and dropped a few times in only the few hours since we had seen her..  So they made a few new decisions..
  • They are taking her off formula for the time being (through her feeding tube), and have increased her IV fluids and lipids and things (a yellow bag of fluids)
  • They took blood and urine for cultures to test for infection (they think that might be a reason for her irratic heartbeats, it should take a few days to get the results)
  • they also started her on caffeine and antibiotics (just to be proactive in case she does have an infection)
  • The attending doctor also called and Nick spoke to him, he uses alot of medical terms, but he did say that they did a few other tests and all of those results were normal, which was good!
  • If there is no infection, then it looks like this is going to be Ryann's preemie thing, bradycardia!  kinda like sleep apnea, just like her Daddy!
The doctor doesnt seem effected by anything that is happening to Ryann, its just a preemie thing he says..  So we are staying positive and are excited that she is getting stronger and older each day!

I finally did remember to write down what her weight progress has been thus far!

2/28 - 1510 grams - 3.33 lbs - (3lbs 5oz) - birthweight
3/3 - 1430 grams - 3.15 lbs - (3lbs 2.4oz) - Weight when Ryann was transported to the Children's hospital
3/13 - 1670 grams - 3.68 lbs - (3lbs 11oz) - Today's weight (tomorrow she is 2 weeks old)

New Video of Ryann today, she had her eyes open today and we were trying to get her to open them again and of course as soon as I turn off the video she opens her eyes!

 - I'm so comfortable!

 - Look Daddy's mouth is as big as my head!

 - Can't forget about big sister, her new favorite sport - Daddy surfing!

The next few days, we are so lucky to have great grandma and grandpa here to play -
Me Ma and Bee Pa (my grandparents)!

Mommy Update - Went to the doctor today and got some good news, I dont have to go back tomorrow, but I do have to go back on Friday.  At least my incision seems to be cooperating now..  Nick said that there was much less drainage today and the gauze was not as saturated when the doctor took it out.... The doc flushed out the wound and didnt have to pack it with so much gauze this time, so that means the less room there is, the more healing that is happening.  So that helps to add back to the positivity.  I still feel crampy and sore, but hopefully in less than a week I will be in the first stages of feeling back to 100%!

See you tomorrow!

Day 11

Ryann had a good night and she was very content when we went to see her today.  We didnt get to hold her today, since the PICC team was going to be checking her dressing again, we didnt want to disturb her.  Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to hold her.  They have noticed some flucuation in her heart beat (also called Bradycardia), so we should find out tomorrow if they will start her on caffeine thearpy regiment.  This is normal for out little preemie, we are still being told that she is a strong, healthy and very fiesty!

Mommy update - went to the OBGYN clinic on post today for a f/u check-up from my ER visit yesterday...  and they still agreed with the wound hematoma diagnosis, so NOW i have to go to the OBGYN clinic everyday to get the hole in my incision flushed out and re-packed with gauze up until it heals, which could take a few weeks, they said that it has to heal from the inside out...  So if it doesnt cooperate then they may have to open my incision up again..... This is really starting to put a damper in my positivity!  My stomach is just tired of getting mashed and getting taped ripped off of it, but I am trying to be a trooper!

Tyring to take some of the same pictures of Ryann that we took with Lucy.  Here is our first set!

Day 10

As we thought, it was going to be to much to visit Ryann today with Lucy, so unfortunlatey we were not able to see her today.  We did call and check in on her and the nurse said that she had another good night and was doing well.  She really doesnt like being on her back, the nurse said that she was crying and going crazy until she put her on her stomach and then she was sleeping like a little angel.  We are excited to see her tomorrow.

Mommy Update - so this morning my incision site was bleeding, so off to the ER we went...  You would think that a bleeding stomach would have put me alittle bit ahead of anyone, but nope, just got put in the awesome ER line to wait my turn.  Luckily the whole expierence would only be 3 hours..  It was determined that (not only do I have an infection at the site) I now have a wound hematoma.

The term "hematoma" refers to a mass or collection of blood. During a Cesarean section, doctors close the abdomen in layers, first suturing the uterus, then the abdominal wall and, finally, the skin. In the short term, multiple layers of closure serve as a barrier against infection. Wound hematomas develop when bleeding occurs after the wound has been closed. Blood becomes trapped and exerts pressure on the surrounding tissue, squeezing out nutrients and oxygen. If the pressure becomes great enough, it can compromise the sutures, creating a portal for bacteria to enter the body, while the blood itself provides a nutrient-rich growth medium for those bacteria. As with infection, treatment requires exploration and drainage of the wound with a scalpel, and sometimes antibiotics.

They basically had to create a small hole in my incision and put a drain in so that all of this old blood will drain out...  I have to go back to the doctor tomorrow at 930am.  I really hope this is the end of my c-section saga...  I am really getting tired of saying that I dont feel well.  God had blessed me with the best, most patient, loving husband ever!  Cant wait until I feel better and we are a complete family.

At least we have this smiling face at home, to remind us everything is going to be a-ok!  Lucy keeps asking to see pictures of baby Ryann and she says, aw I love her, she is my best friend!  It is going to be so exciting to see their sisterhood and friendship develop!

Day 9

My sister Michelle and her boyfriend Brian came to visit this weekend.  They both got to visit Ryann and see her new digs!

I didnt get any pictures of Brian, but here is one of "TT", I am sure that Ryann will call her TT, too!

We spoke to Ryann's nurse this afternoon and she did tell us that they are going to suspen bottle feedings again for alittle while, when she was feeding her this morning her heartbeat dropped, which is a sign that she is still not strong enough to support (breathing, sucking and swallowing) at the same time.  It is ok, it just lets the nurses know that she isnt ready yet, so they will try again I think in about a week, to see what progress Ryann has made.  I meant to ask the nurse about Ryann's weight progression, I will Monday.  I am not sure if we will be able to see Ryann tomorrow, it is hard with Lucy, since she isnt allowed in the NICU...  But we will see.

Ryann was so alert and awake when we saw her today, I took a video of her!!

Actually, today is Day 8

Can you believe that ms. Ryann is already a week old!  We cant believe it!  She looked older to Nick and I today.  When we got to the hospital they had just fed her and changed her and she was sleeping so peacfully!

but, then the PICC team came to change her dressing and she cried and cried, broke my heart, but after they were finished we did get to hold her for awhile, which was awesome!  Her eyes were wide open staring at me for while!

Nick also got to hold her and we took another photo of the 3 of us, cant wait until we get a family photo of the 4 of us!

We tried to get a pic of her smiling!

After while, she got tired of her Daddy messing with her and she was mouth breathing!

Tomorrow we will have visitors, Auntie Michelle and her boyfriend Brian are coming to visit.  They will be the first visitors to the new NICU.  We are excited to see her.

See you tomorrow!

PS> Quick mommy update, i got my staples out today and found out that I have kinda been in more pain then I should be due to an infection, so I am now on antibiotics and was told that I still need to take it easy, and since I am still on pain meds, no driving for me for about 4 more weeks!

Just getting anxious to be feeling better and stronger, but I know that it will take time.   I know that Nick is probably getting tired of me saying, I dont feel good!  He is the best Hubby and daddy ever!!
